intricate lines and creases
swirls, whorls, impressions
strength and power
gentleness and comfort
in those hands
why did you take them ?

that held babies loved

resisted
the darkness
did you look
into her eyes
did you hear a
prayer to Creator
whispered
by the wind
when you took them
is your sleep

with the vision
of her
do you shudder
in fear
those hands

will reach beyond
the grave
to mark

tremble

should
why did you take them ?

imprinted

strong
frail
young
old
