Bringing the old fashioned traditions and culture to the forefront of the minds of the public today is the goal and mission behind the Powhatan Native People Pauwau. Now getting ready to celebrate the 3rd annual festival and Pauwau - it was the vision of Curtis and Katrina Blankenship of Powhatan, Virginia - whose heritage is Cherokee - to create an event that all tribes would be honored and represented. October 9 & 10, 2009 will begin with a Native American concert by Arvel Bird - master violinist/fiddler who plays a mix of bluegrass/celtic/r&b/jass and more. This story teller will delight everyone with his creativity, spirituality and incredible music abilities. Saturday features a special Thank You for all those who give ... our soldiers ... our Native People who give of their talents - their skills - and their honor for preserving history and the mission behind this special event.
When we (the Blankenships) started 3 years ago working toward creating a place where our native friends could get together to "Pauwau" (the original spelling of powwow) our dream quickly became known among the people. For the fellowship of friends and those of "like faith" was very important to us to bring together.
We wanted to take it a step farther - by working hard to bring in our friends and neighbours that we live and work with within our county and neighbouring counties to introduce them to these special traditions - to bring awareness and eduction to all.
We are honored to bring an event to fruition - to keep our heritage alive - to capture the essence of a true Pauwau!
Come see! You will be amazed!
