On May 7, 2009, in the center of downtown Portland, Oregon, several Indian organizations gathered to celebrate Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.
Hosted by the Native American Rehabilitation Center, the youth organizers collected care bags and food, etc. for area homeless youth.
Information booths by other groups like the National Indian Child Welfare Association, were there. Two powwow drums provided songs for volunteer dancers, and celebrated the commitment for better mental health services for our Indian communities, that include the voice of youth, and other stakeholders, in the planning process.
The video shows the organizing group from NARA explain their Systems of Care program, and features some of the youths involved in that program, and the event planning.
They exemplify the official Indian community motto for CMHA Day: "Live well, live Native!"
