ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Keres Consulting, Inc. recently announced it was awarded a $3.5 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to support the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program, an initiative of the DoD Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) to mitigate environmental impacts on Indian lands resulting from DoD activities.
Based in Albuquerque, N.M., Keres Consulting, Inc. is a Native American-owned general management consulting firm with specialized expertise in asset management, energy and the environment, and communication and technology.
The scope of the contract includes serving as a liaison between DoD’s Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) and Native American entities throughout the U.S.; gathering and analyzing information on environmental affects of DoD’s activities on Indian lands; and recommending future projects that may be funded by NALEMP. The total contract is divided into two years – a base year (estimated at $2 million) and one option year (estimated at $1.5 million).

NALEMP was established in 1996 as a provision in the DoD Appropriations Act to require the DoD to dedicate funds annually to mitigate environmental impacts on Indian lands and Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act – conveyed properties.
Keres secured the NALEMP contract in June 2004 and has facilitated environmental mitigation activities with 43 federally recognized tribes in Alaska, Arizona, California, Maine, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin.
