By Staff reports

NORMAN, Okla. – Mary Linn, associate professor of anthropology and member of the Native American Language Program in the University of Oklahoma College of Arts and Sciences Department of Anthropology, was recently named one of five 2009 DaVinci Fellows by the Oklahoma DaVinci Institute.

She was honored at a banquet March 27, where she received a medal and a check for $1,000.

To be considered for fellowship, nominees must address a complexity of an issue, have a fresh perspective or creative approach to the issue, and be able to measure its effectiveness and its appropriate results.

Linn, a linguistic anthropologist, focuses her research, teaching and community service on the documentation and description of American Indian languages. She is the author of “A Reference Grammar of Euchee,” the first complete grammar book of the Euchee (Yuchi) language. She also is one of the founders of the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair, at which more than 1,000 American Indian youths gather annually to make presentations in their Native language.
