EL CAJON, Calif. – The team from Chula Vista, California’s Park View Little League made it to the 2009 Little League World Series. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation made it possible for the players’ parents to join their sons in Williamsport, Penn. during the two-week tournament.

“We were very happy to be able to do this and help the parents be part of something so amazing. We hope they had a great time while watching their kids make a run at a Little League World Series title,” said Daniel J. Tucker, Sycuan chairman.

Since Little League only pays the cost of travel for players and coaches, family members who wanted to attend the international baseball tournament in Pennsylvania, must raise their own money in a matter of days, a tall order, even in good economic times.

Tucker and the rest of the Sycuan Tribal Council heard about the need for funding and approached Park View Little League administrators about a donation, which helped pay for the parents’ airfare and lodging expenses during the event.

And the parents were glad they could be there to see their sons win the championship. The Park View team beat Chinese Taipei’s Kuei-Shan Little League, 6-3, to win the 63rd Little League Baseball World Series. Vice President Joe Biden stayed for the duration of the game and assisted Stephen D. Keener, Little League president and CEO; and Dennis Lewin, chairman of the Little League International board of directors, with the presentation of the World Championship banner.
