Position: Executive Director, Business/Economic Development
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians is seeking an Executive Director of Business and Economic Development of Mno-Bmadsen. Mno-Bmadsen is an enterprise chartered by the Tribal Council of the Pokagon Band to provide business and economic development that generates revenue to fund government programs, provide livelihoods to the Pokagon Potawatomi people, and improve the quality of life for the Band membership.
This position will be responsible for identifying potential business & economic development opportunities; evaluating and recommending development opportunities to the Board of Directors; managing the start-up of approved development initiatives; analyzing and assessing the performance of on-going development projects; developing and implementing public relations and marketing strategies to promote the enterprise; overseeing accounting and financial functions; providing overall leadership and direction for the enterprise and any enterprise staff.
The Pokagon Band provides services including housing, education, family services, medical care and cultural preservation to approximately 3800 Tribal members in Southwestern Michigan, Northwestern Indiana, and abroad, through a rapidly growing Tribal Government of over 100 employees. Tribal government operations are located in Dowagiac, Michigan. This position will be located in or near the Tribal government center, although the enterprise may conduct its business & economic development activities any place in the world.
General Job Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree required. MBA or equivalent degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of business/economic development and/or entrepreneurial experience is required.
- Demonstrated success in securing profitable new business/economic development opportunities.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver easily understood presentations of complex information.
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, from senior corporate executives to local managers and community officials.
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
- Ability to travel.
- Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) Certification preferred.
