President nominates two more tribal citizens

By Rob Capriccioso

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has announced his intent to nominate two more tribal citizens to posts within his administration.

Cynthia Chavez Lamar, who is from San Felipe Pueblo in New Mexico, was nominated to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development. She directs the Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research and has previously worked for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the National Museum of the American Indian.

Michael F. Tillman, a citizen of the Tlingit Tribe of Alaska, has been nominated to serve on the Marine Mammal Commission. He’s a former National Marine Fisheries Service employee and has experience in marine conservation issues.

The president also nominated JoAnn Lynn Balzer to serve on the same board as Lamar. She helped found the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum and the Institute of American Indian Arts Foundation.

All three positions require Senate confirmation, according to the White House.

I disagree with Ninch. The former Hopi USA Attorney abused the political system on her own reservation for her own (and her dad's who was on the council) benefit. Obama did the right thing to remove her!!!!!! Corruption comes in many colors.

Before we crash obama why don't you really find out what happen"? Why would color enter the picture maybe it is the work of the person. You have to remember obama is a black man a Black man really has no justice in white man's government. White man mess up his own government. They really did not want a black man in office. But the people wanted a change of a much more righteous behavior. You also have to remember nothing goes by the way of the creator. Indian people you have left your guard down years ago and gave up the fight. when are ancestors died fighting. you accepted being on the reservation. They gave you what they want you to live on and gave you welfare. when we are the people of the earth. So give obama a chance.

I agree with ninch and tina, since these outsiders reside on lands stolen from the native tribes, who would beleive what any of them have to say, they wanted tribal lands, their resources,to force an assimulation of all tribes, and they took their lives, and gave a sorry excuse for it.the tribes are insulted.what are the tribes to do?

Obama also earlier fired a very competent Arizona-Hopi US Attorney (first Native American woman in this position) and replaced her with a white guy who is one of Janet Napolitano's political aides. Obama is no supporter of Native Americans, women, or competent appointees.
